Quick tip: Connecting your mac to the internet via a Samsung SGH-I600 or Blackjack

Connecting to the internet via bluetooth using your SGH-I600 is very simple.

The first thing you need to do is go to Start->Internet Shairing on your phone. Select Bluetooth PAN in the select-box and press “Connect”.

Now, if you haven’t already paired your phone to your mac, click the bluetooth icon in the menu bar on your mac and select “Set up Bluetooth Device” from the menu. Select mobile phone and then your phone from the list. You will be asked to enter a passcode into your phone, after which you will be able to use your I600 with your mac.

When paired, click the bluetooth icon in the menu bar and select “Join Network on PHONENAME”. That’s it. Really.

There is one drawback to using this method. Your top download speed will be limited to about 50-60kB/s which is about how much bluetooth can transfer. I’m still trying to figure out how to share the phone’s connection through WLAN that should easily handle sharing 1.8 MB/s HSDPA connection. Stay tuned for updates.
