Using your Nokia S60 device as a bluetooth modem in OS X
Here’s a quick guide to setting up your Nokia S60 device as a bluetooth modem in OS X
Note: This is an old article that applies to OS X 10.4 Tiger, there is an updated tutorial for Leopard and newer S60 phones on 2nrds.
Using Nokia Series 60 devices (like the N-series and E-series) as bluetooth modems doesn’t work right out of the box in OS X as you might think. To get online using your phone you need to download a modem script for it. Here’s a quick guide to setting up your phone as a modem. I have tested that this works on a Nokia E70, and should thus work on any other S60 device. Please leave a comment if you have any trouble.
Downloading the needed modem scripts
First download the Nokia 3G script from Ross Barkman’s Home Page, you will need Stuffit Expander to extract the files.
Once downloaded you drag the modem files to Library/Modem Scripts
Configuring
Open system prefrences and select network, then in the network configuration screen, select Bluetooth from the “Show”-dropdown.
Service Provider and Account name can be what ever you choose, but the telephone number needs to be your service provider’s internet APN. You can check this in your phone by going to Tools>Settings>Connection>Access Points and selecting edit and looking at the access point name field.
In PPP Options select the following:
Here are the settings for the rest of the tabs:
In the Modem-dopdown select Nokia 3G CID1, if you cannot connect with this, try the Nokia 3G CID2 script.
I selected both “Show Bluetooth status in menu bar” and “Show modem status in menu bar”, but these are not necessary.
Save changes and you should be ready to connect.
Connecting
Click the modem icon in the menu bar and select connect (or open Internet Connect>Bluetooth). If everything went well you should be connected to the internet.
If this doesn’t work, please make sure that you have bluetooth enabled on your phone, I always forget to turn it on myself.
Please report if you have any problems so I can update this howto to work for everyone.
Enjoy.

Hi
Thanks for the screenshots. I tried but still had problems with getting on the PPP-Server. I get disconnected while identifying. Can you guess why? Thanks!

Unfortunately I don’t have a S60 device at the moment. I’ll see if I can get hold of one so I can update this.
